Additional notes for Expository Essay

An expository essay is argumentative in nature. You need to present both sides of an argument.

Formatting matters:

Introduction: State your opinion.
E.g. The school is the place where we go to acquire new knowledge and skills. Although discipline is needed to enforce order so that everyone gets to learn, I disagree to a large extent that schools should become a place of discipline. This is because knowledge is gained when we students are allowed to learn creatively, with more room for innovation and individual expression.

Body:
Argument for: 
THIS IS IMPORTANT: 
When I say "argument for", I mean the argument supporting YOUR OPINION/STAND, and not the topic sentence.
E.g. Firstly, being able to learn creatively allows students to explore their own potential talent.

Argument against:
However, no discipline will only result in rowdy classrooms. Lessons will be constantly disrupted and students will not learn anything fruitful...

Conclusion:
E.g. In conclusion, even though discipline is important and necessary to maintaining order and uniformity in school, allowing students to express themselves freely may...
