No. 11 Essay Writing

School is a place where we can learn, play and work. We gain new knowledge and even life long skills. It is a place that is even considered our second home. For instance, imagine a home which is full of discipline- this does not make any sense as a home should be somewhere comfortable to stay. Thus, I believe that school should not be a place of discipline.

To begin with, having discipline makes students stiff, and not lively in their school lives. This leads to pupils not communicating when they are supposed to and this means that the interactions between teachers and students will stop. If this happens, it will be the same as not attending school because there are no interactions or socialisations. Too much discipline may also make the students afraid to ask questions to clarify the things that they do not understand. Most of the time, this will result in the dropping of academic grades.

Furthermore, discipline makes life at school harsher and stricter. If I were given the choice, I would choose to study in a place without discipline, as it would be a more comfortable environment to study and concentrate in. Studying or spending hours in places that you are not used to, or uncomfortable ...in, would make you lose concentration as the surroundings will bother you. You may also be very tense and cannot relax or enjoy the moments in school because of all the discipline.

However, students these days are found to be less obedient and mannerless. They do not bother to greet their teachers or elders at all. They do not apply their learning into their daily lives and ignore the school rules. Such examples may be when they do not tuck in their shirts but fold it, or when they ...alter their skirts and pants to the length they desire. This is not allowed but they do not care, and disobey these concrete rules. Sometimes, they do not take the lessons and what they learn in it seriously and even treat it as a practical joke.

Moreover, they could show bad images of the school and the country. Many students do not care whether they are at school or public places, and swear using vulgar words. If they are in their school uniform in a public place, they are putting a morally wrong image of their school, as well as showing a bad i...mage of Singapore to foreigners.

To summarize it all, I believe that schools should not have a strong discipline system in order to make school life more enjoyable for the students. Studying, playing and living in a comfortable and optimistic environment will allow the students of Singapore to grow wisely, to stand tall and be prepared for ...their future through the socialisation and interaction in their second home, our school.

  1. Excellent organisation and content, but take note of slight grammar errors and strange use of ellipses.
